Area Employers Recognized for Partnering to Benefit Milwaukee Youth

Milwaukee, WI – September 7, 2006:  The City of Milwaukee and Mayor Tom Barrett have awarded Victory Personnel Services, Inc., in partnership with Manpower Inc., the Youth Partnership Award.

Staff members Barbara Tucker and Darrel Isabell led Victory’s participation in the Mayor’s summer youth employment and training program, which provided eight-week employment opportunities for  650 central city youths,  ages 16-20 years.  Tucker and Isabell conducted employee interviews and pre-employment orientations and coordinated job training sessions designed to prepare the young workers for a variety of jobs that averaged 20 hours each week. The positions filled included general office duties, landscaping, and janitorial services, as well as the removal of graffiti at 90 Milwaukee city agency locations.

This initiative included  weekly job readiness workshops, held each Friday by local business leaders to review and discuss the value of other important employee characteristics, including being at work every day, arriving at the job on time, proper work-related dress and business conduct.  These sessions also provided an opportunity for students learn the skills related to networking for employment effectiveness.
